Hair - The Undone 'Do

You love the look of short hair, but you re not quite ready to trim those tumbling tresses. The solution: Give hair a real lift with a cool new 'do

Okay, diehard longhair wearers: We know there's no way you'd part with your lengthy locks. But you have to admit, the summer can get awfully uncomfortable when your hair's hanging down your back. What's a girl to do? Try a French twist. This casual coif (oh-so-big in the '60s) was inspired by French actress Brigitte Bardot's signature upsweep. But our version is a bit more relaxed. The allure of the loose style? "It has a clean sex appeal," says John Donato, owner of Salon Donato, in Ontario, Canada. "The less perfect it looks, the better. "

To find out how the 'do is done, follow these tips from hairstylist Grey Zisser:

1. Blow-dry hair, sweeping it back off face. To keep it smooth and tame, spritz on a styling spray, like Clairol Condition Spray Gel, and finger-comb through hair. (if you have bangs, just let them fall forward.)

2. Gather front section of hair from top of ears to crown. Twist section around in a circular motion. Then push it forward for added height and looseness. Pin hair on top of head (not too fiat).

3. Gather bottom section of hair, and twist in same direction. Pull this section straight up, and pin into place all along top twist. Tuck loose ends under toward the center. Then pull out a few strands of hair to frame the face.
