Beauty Q&A
To give your skin a healthy glow, add a once-a-week facial mask to your beauty routine.

I 've never tried using a facial mask before. What's so special about them?  - TAMMY W., SELMA, OR

A facial mask gives your skin a deeper cleansing than ordinary face soap can. This is especially important during the summer, when perspiration can cause dirt to collect on the skin's surface and clog pores. To give your skin a healthy glow and rejuvenate your complexion, add a once-aweek facial mask to your beauty routine.

For normal-to-dry skin: In a small bowl, combine the yolk of one egg with half a teaspoon of leman juice; mix well. After removing your makeup, gently smear the mixture on your face with your fingers.

(Be careful not to get too close to your eyes.) Wait twenty minutes, then rinse off the mask with warm water.

For oily skin: In a small bowl, combine the white of one egg with half a teaspoon of leman juice; mix well. Follow directions above for applying the mask, then wait ten minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Ouch! I lay out in the sun the other day, and now I'm really feeling the burn. How can I soothe my aching skin? - LIZ A., SALT LAKE CITY, UT

"To take the sting out of a sunburn," says dermatologist Dr. Brett Shulman, "take an aspirin and a cool bath." (A void washing with scented soaps or bath oils-they can irritate sensitiye skin.) If you're still feeling uncomfortable, dilute two cups of vinegar in a sinkful of cool water, and apply the mixture to sunburned areas with a washcloth. Also, keep your skin moisturized to prevent it from peeling. (We like Neutrogena Moisture for the face and Medicated Noxzema Skin Cream for the body.) If blisters appear or the stinging persists after a few days, consult a physician. To avoid getting burned in the future, protect your skin with an SPF 15 sunscreen, and stay out of the sun during the peak burning hours of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. (Remember: One bad sunburn can double your risk of skin cancer in the future.)

My hair is really damaged from swimming. What can I do to get it back into shape - and keep it that way? - SARA O., CHEYENNE, WY

Before taking the plunge, thoroughly wet hair and massage a water-based conditioner (like Profusian by Regis Corp.) into the roots. Immediately after swimming, rinse hair with fresh water, then shampoo. Sunning and swimming are especially damaging to the ends of your hair, so be sure to get a trim every four to eight weeks.

How can I keep my feet looking great and feeling cool this summer? - JANE Z., NEW YORK, NY

Treat your feet right by following these heel-to-toe tips:

. After showering, smooth a body lotion on your feet. (A good choice:
Dr. SchoIl's Smooth Touch Foot & Leg Conditioning Lation.) Then sprinkle on a foot powder to minimize perspiration throughout the day. (Try Dr. Scholl's Smooth Touch Antifungal Powder.)

. Always keep toenails trimmed. Cut them straight across to avoid ingrown toenails.

. Resist the temptation to go barefoot in warm weather: Hat pavement and sand can burn your feet; wet surfaces can trigger a case of athlete's foot.

. Keep feet cool and comfortable by wearing cotton socks and scented insoles inside shoes.

. If your feet have really been working overtime, soak them in a tub of warm water and baby oil. Afterward, give them a massage.
