Meet one of New York's hottest makeup artists, Bobbi Brown, as she reveals her best-kept beauty secrets and gives tips for all you future makeup pros out there

Okay. You 've dropped out of your second college, and you realize you don't know what you want to do with your life. Where do you turn for advice? Well, if you're Bobbi Brown, you run straight to MOM, who asks one simple question: "What do you like to do" "I could only think of one thing," remembers Bobbi. "I said, 'I like to go to MAKEUPCOUNTERS.' " And from there a makeup artist was born. Bobbi and Mom decided she would go to Emerson College in Boston and study THEATRICAL makeup.
Now, ten years (and a lot of spilled foundation) later, Bobbi is one of New York's most sought-after makeup artists with her trademark Bobbi Brown look. "I like to create a beautiful face that looks like there's no makeup at all, using mostly NATURAL colors." So what are the beauty secrets of her success?

1. SKIN is the key to it all she tells all models to take care of their skin with rest, healthy food, exercise, and water, inside (drinking) and outside (moisturizing).

2. Use FOUNDATION as a cover-up around the nose, mouth, and eyes.

3. Most people have a yellowish skin color (though they aren't aware of it)-so most of the POWDERS she uses are yellow. Translucent powder is only for very pale skin.

4. BLUSH color should match the color of your cheeks after you exercise. And what ADVICE does Bobbi have for future makeup artists?

. Knowing how to create flawless skin is essential. Anyone can paint eyes and lips you first have to learn how to apply foundation and powder to look as if they aren't even there.

. Get EXPERIENCE. Go to modeling agencies and photographers, and tell them you'll work for free. Start to put together a portfolio.

. Remember: Knowing when not to apply makeup is the mark of a good makeup artist.
