Down in the Valley
Norton saddles up to play a displaced cowboy who wanders Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley and falls in love with a teenage girl (Wood), much to the dismay of her stern father (Morse).
''I don't think we could have made this with any of the so-called art-house labels at the studios,'' says Norton, who co-produced Valley through his own Class 5 company and also stars in August's The Illusionist. ''I don't think we would have been able to explain what this film was.'' So what is it? ''It's hard to explain,'' he laughs. ''We wanted to look at the Western in a way that people our own age would connect with because it portrayed a world they would recognize...in the same way that Fight Club made some people go, 'This is for us.'''
