Trust the Man
Never get between a woman and her cake...unless she's choking, of course. ''Bart's birthday in January is around the same time as the Golden Globes,'' says Moore of a Trust scene inspired by an incident between her and real-life husband Freundlich. ''There was a coconut cake, I was in an evening gown, I hadn't eaten in a long time, and I choked on the cake.'' It was just one of the true stories that made it into the film, which follows two New York couples (Moore and Duchovny, plus Gyllenhaal and Crudup) as they navigate the ebbs and flows of their attraction and fidelity to each other. The downtown locales — including restaurants like Pastis and Veselka — were practically a fifth character. ''That's how [New Yorkers] socialize,'' says West Village resident Moore. ''We eat!''
