The Ant Bully
|
Years ago, Tom Hanks would read a bedtime book to his son Truman called The Ant Bully, about a kid who got shrunk down to bug level and lived among the ants. ''And Tom thought, 'Hey! This would make a good movie,' and sent it to me,'' says Davis. In Hollywood, what Hanks wants, Hanks gets. The movie's big set piece pits ants against wasps, which was another draw.
'Tom has always been a fan of Ray Harryhausen's films,'' says Davis of the stop-motion-animation legend who made art out of battling beasties. ''That struck me, too, that this was a chance to do my tribute to Harryhausen.'' (August 4)
