An American Haunting
Tennessee's most notorious curse has returned. No, Al Gore is not running for office again. But the story of the legendary Bell Witch, a poltergeist that plagued a Red River, Tenn., family beginning in 1817 — and allegedly assaulted future president Andrew Jackson — is primed to spook theatergoers.
Dungeons and Dragons' Solomon nabbed the grande dame of horror, Spacek (Carrie), as the Bell matriarch and Sutherland (who, after Pride & Prejudice, seems comfy in britches) as her tormented husband. When the Bells' involvement in a shady land deal is exposed, a local eccentric — some say a witch — hexes their family name.
Nearly 200 years later, the Bells' descendants (Suzan Almgren and Isabelle Almgren-Doré) uncover the mystery behind the phenomenon, and realize old ghost stories can come back to haunt them. (May 5)
