I get along with most of my directors
Mahima is eagerly looking forward to the release of Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar. This is director Priyadarshan’s next comedy after Hera Pheri and she has her eyes set on it. Her next round of releases should hopefully spruce up her professional stakes.
There is not much news on your professional front?
Just because I’ve been keeping a low profile doesn’t mean that I’m not doing good quality work! I have been busy shooting for my films since the past few months and they are due for release now. There is Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Lajja which will come soon. Then there is Mahesh Mangrekar’s Tere Pyar Ki Kasam with Sunil Shetty. I’m also looking forward to Rahein Na Rahein Hum opposite Ajay Devgan. And then I have Kundan Shah's new film in which Rekha plays my mother and Preity Zinta, my sister.
Which of these films would you lay your chances most on?
Honestly, I look forward to all my films with the same excitement, but at this moment, I’m waiting for Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar to release because I’m sure that it is going to click with the audience. It is a comedy film and it’s really shaped up very well.
What’s your role in YTGYMG?
I’m playing the role of a middle-class Maharashtrian working girl. She lives with her family in a huge rented house. The house has been with them for two decades and the rent is also very low. One fine day, the landlord of the house (played by Sunil Shetty) comes and demands his house back. The story is about how this girl doesn’t want to give up her home and how she manages not to.
How was it doing a comedy with someone as brilliant as Paresh Rawal?
I really enjoyed working on this film. I had never played a Maharashtrian girl before. Also I’ve never worked on such a comic script earlier. Paresh is simply brilliant; some of the scenes with him are so funny! He plays a cop who is sent by Sunil to get me out of the house. However, he is so much in awe of my beauty that he tries his best to impress me at all costs.
You seem to particularly get along with director Mahesh Manjrekar.
I get along with most of my directors. With Mahesh too, I hit it off well. He’s a cool director, does his job well, is quick and doesn’t waste his artiste’s time. I shot with him for Kurukshetra and really learnt a lot from him.
What’s up on the personal front?
Nothing really. The sad part of being an actress is that you lose your privacy totally. It’s such a small world for us. I don’t have a man in my life now. If I were seeing anyone from outside or in the industry, wouldn’t you all know about it by now?
