Exclusive Interview
Close and personal with Katrina Kaif
So in your new campaign for Nakshatra diamonds, you look ridiculously stunning! Can you tell us more about the shoot?
Thank-you, it's been a wonderful journey; we had an amazing time shooting the commercial. My dear friend Ahmed Khan was the choreographer, who was kind enough to help us out. We've tried our best. It's an amazing concept, what we're tried to do is to tie in the elements of astrology, seeing what diamonds and gems symbolize. We've gotten a wonderful response; hope the journey continues to be successful.
In the ad you play the goddess of luck. Are you really good luck?
(Laughs) I am so glad you brought that up. We are in no way incorporating that I am the goddess of luck. The ad represents a goddess of luck with elements of Astrology and gem energies and I am simply playing the character.
Are you really into Astrology?
I am not completely into it. However, it does excite me, when I meet someone who can read hands or who is into stars and numbers. It's good to get a glimpse of what's in store for you. I have met people who have sworn that certain gems have helped them a lot. I guess the energies that many of these gems contain when connected, they can change your life for the better. Read More

Interview
The initial impression is very important for me
You keep getting these ‘hottest’, ‘sexiest’ awards year after year – and now do hot item numbers too – while asserting that you’re the frumpiest among your sisters. Explain the contradiction.
On screen, obviously, I do work to look glamorous, that is my job and looking that way is my presentation for my job. But I don’t go to bed like that.
Off screen and in my everyday life, however, I don’t want to walk around like that. Whoever wants to be my friend or would like to come near me for any reason, I want them to see me. I don’t want them to see a person like that. That’s not me.
I see some women walking in for a dinner with coordinated watches, handbags, shoes, and they’re stunning – and I’m like, how do they DO that? Because if I have to go out like this with my friends or sisters, my outfit would be probably all of five thousand rupees. I’m not one of those naturally stylish people. I’m basic, and I don’t honestly believe that all that adds to your attraction. Yes, you may turn more heads when you walk in through the door, but in the long run, it is what you inherently are that is gonna speak for itself. Read More
Career Milestones
Katrina Kaif began her modeling career at age fourteen; her first assignment was for a jewelry campaign. She continued modeling in London under a contract with the Models 1 Agency and did campaigns for houses such as La Senza and Arcadius, and even walked on the London Fashion Week.
Kaif's modeling work led to her discovery by London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who gave her a part in his film Boom (2003). The film, which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Gulshan Grover, failed to make an impact. She then moved to Mumbai and was offered a number of modeling assignments, but filmmakers were hesitant to cast Kaif due to her poor command of Hindi.
In 2005, Kaif made a cameo in Ram Gopal Verma's drama Sarkar, as Abhishek Bachchan's girlfriend. The same year, she landed her first major role in David Dhawan's adaptation of Cactus Flower, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, where she was paired opposite Salman Khan. The film also featured Sushmita Sen, Arshad Warsi, Isha Koppikar and Sohail Khan in lead roles. Upon release, the film became a moderate success with Taran Adarsh, a prominent film critic, praising Kaif as a "complete revelation". Read More
