Juhi Chawla still giggles!
As Akshay Kumar turns behind, a pretty female dressed in red flashes her charming smile. A marriage shot being picturised in Filmistan Studios on the sets of Suneel Darshan's ‘Dosti’. The lady in question is the ever-giggling Scorpio actress Juhi Chawla, who breaks into dance to complete the shot. ‘Dosti’ also stars Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta and Kareena Kapoor.
Chawla, who last shot with Akshay for ‘Ek Rishta’, where she played his sister reveals, "I have been recently added in ‘Dosti’. I have a cameo, which is an important part of the story. My track is basically with Akshay. However, I cannot give away the details of my role as that would tantamount to giving away a good amount of the story," she laughs.
Of course, the lovely-looking lady has a lot to smile about. Recently, she has also been added in Amol Palekar's ‘Paheli’ (earlier titled ‘Ghost Ka Dost’).
Says Chawla, "In Paheli, I am working with Shah Rukh Khan after a long time. It's a great feeling. However, my character has a touch of sadness. Through the film, the reason for my state of mind is revealed."
Shah Rukh Khan as the co-actor and a touch of sadness in the role. Aha! The time is right to touch upon her production company Dreamz Unlimited with King Khan and Aziz Mirza and get the truth from the horse's mouth. Haven't the shutters been pulled down on that?
Chawla maintains her cool but surprisingly denies, "Our plans on film production are simply on hold. The shutters haven't been pulled down."
Quickly Chawla veers the topic to ‘My Brother Nikhil’ (directed by Onir), perhaps sensing that we would not refrain asking the current status of her relationship with King Khan. The grapevine goes that the duo is not on great terms ever since Dreams Unlimited met with limitations.
"A few weeks from now, I will be seen in ‘My Brother Nikhil’ which is the story of a happy family who has to suddenly face a lot of humiliation and tragedy as time goes on. I play sister to AIDS victim Sanjay Suri. Victor Banerjee and Lilette Dubey play our parents," she informs.
For those who thought that Chawla was in the last leg of her journey in ‘Jhankaar Beats’ and ‘Teen Deewarein’, think again. Chawla's kitty also reveals ‘Sade Saat Phere’ (directed by Ishaan Trivedi) and ‘Khamosh’ (directed by Deepak Tijori). Chawla has resurfaced.
Once an actor, always an actor?
Chawla laughs again. "You can say that again. I thought I should continue doing what I am best at. I was away from the arc lights for nearly 20 months. At first, I thought I might not be able to roll. But I am sailing very smoothly," she offered. "I have been offered roles which require me to play mother to 16 and 17-year-olds. This is absurd. I wish that film-makers don't come to me with half-baked ideas," she laments. But before she goes into a shell, she again bursts into laughter, reminiscing, "I have also been offered roles which require me to run around trees."
How does she manage home and career both?
"Oh come on. Before you title me as Superwoman, let me tell you that it's not a big deal. Those who want to do it can do it."
And how do the kids react to their mother being a public figure? Pat comes the reply, "Well, so far, they are unaware that I am a public figure. My son Arjun is just one and half years old. My daughter Jhanvi has started reacting a bit. But frankly I don't encourage her to watch much television. Recently however she identified me on some hoarding. I would have no problems if my kids want to make acting as their profession. I will support them all the way," she concludes as Suneel calls for another shot.
Soon, Chawla will also be seen in the Punjabi film ‘Des Ho Ya Pardes’. As Chawla rushes back for another shot, she once again breaks into laughter, exuding immense love and warmth. With a loving hubby, two cute kids, pearly teeth and new work assignments, who wouldn't be giggling?
