Facing the horrific outcome of a twisted rape fantasy

Gerald's Game (2017)

Gerald’s Game movie review. Have you read Stephen King’s rape fantasy novel Gerald’s Game? I read it and I liked it. The 2017 US-made movie Gerald’s Game was based on this book and was shot very faithfully to the book. I just watched the movie and liked it. It was a very good thriller movie set in a single location. It also includes the element of drama.

The plot is as follows: Gerald and Jessie go to a lakeside house for a nice weekend vacation that will add color and excitement to their marriage. Gerald brings sturdy handcuffs with him for the handcuffed rape he dreams of, and ties his wife to the bed with them. Jessie doesn’t like this surprise very much, but she tries to accompany him. Gerald, who has swallowed Viagra, faints and collapses on top of his wife as they have just started making love.

Jessie unintentionally causes him to have a heart attack and die by kicking him during the fantasy. Now he is left alone, tied to the bed, and there is no one nearby to hear his voice. While Jessie struggles to survive, she will also have to confront an extremely dramatic event she experienced in her childhood that affected every aspect of her life. Moreover, the dog that entered the house intends to feed on her husband’s corpse.

If you are interested in drama and psychological thriller movies, I think you will also like Gerald’s Game. Even though it was shot in a single location and with only 2 actors, this is an immersive and impressive film that does not bore you. The adaptation is successful, and so are the actors.

I don’t know if you’ve read the book, it’s a slow-moving story, but it has a feature that makes me love Stephen King: What goes through people’s minds, what affects them, and their connections with their past are explained very well. It may seem boring to those who like action, but I read it without getting bored and with pleasure.

Mike Flanagan is the director of the movie, which lasts 1 hour and 43 minutes. Flanagan shot the film largely faithful to the book. Carla Gugino plays the role of Jessie Burlingame, and she plays it very well. Gerald Burlingame is played by Bruce Greenwood. He does not have an active role in the film, but he did his part very well. This is a movie that I would definitely recommend to those who love this type of movies. Let me also write the names of some other actors: Chiara Aurelia, Carel Struycken, Kate Siegel and Henry Thomas.
