Inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, the romantic comedy Anyone But You follows two people who act like a couple at a wedding in Australia even though they hate each other Sweeney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s romantic comedy Anyone But You reached a major milestone at the box office with a worldwide gross of $200 million.
The film, which managed to become the romantic comedy with the highest box office revenue of recent years, left behind the last examples of the genre such as Ticket to Heaven, starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, and Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City.
The film, shot with a low budget of $25 million, was released in the United States in December, but remained on the box office lists. While ticket sales of the romantic comedy in the USA reached up to 86.5 million dollars, it managed to earn 112.8 million dollars worldwide. “We read scripts together”
Powell told Variety’s Senior Culture and Events Editor Marc Malkin at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Saturday night that he and Sweeney “read a lot of scripts.”
The 35-year-old actor also talked about how compatible he and Sweeney were at the award ceremony: Sydney is so easy to work with and so much fun. We’re definitely trying to find the next thing. Please send us any scripts you have. Sydney reads everything, by the way, in record time. I think he’s the fastest reader I know. We read everything and just try to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences will respond to.”
