Introducing Kantra, Trajan's Aqueducts in Harbiye, Hatay, Turkey

We are in the southernmost province of Hatay in Turkey. There is a structure that has survived from ancient times in this city of Harbiye, located on the Syrian border. Trajan’s Aqueducts known as Kantra, named after Roman Constable Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus, who made this construction.

This structure was built by the Roman emperor Trajan (Trayan) in the 2nd century to bring water from Harbiye to the city. The aqueduct is 9 km long. Some of Trajan Aqueducts are located between Antakya Harbiye and some are near Antakya State Hospital. This work is called Memikli Köprü in public language. The height of this structure, which is constructed to relieve the water needs of Antakyan, is 40 meters.
