“A Simple Favor” star Blake Lively revealed why he believes it’s important for his three daughters to see him at work.
The 34-year-old Gossip Girl star, who has daughters James (6), Inez (5), and Betty (2) with her husband Ryan Reynolds, spoke candidly about the importance of showing her daughters that she has an identity other than motherhood, in an interview with People.
Lively said:
I want to be by their side as a mother as much as I can and make my presence felt, but I also think that the best way to be the best mother is to show them that you can have a life, have a passion, and have an identity other than just being a mother.
The actress acknowledged that being a mother is “totally all-encompassing” and that there are many mothers who do not have the opportunity to work while talking about the need for their daughters to understand that it is “very important” to have their own identity.
“And teaching them that they can express themselves strongly and that anything is possible (very important) is also (very important),” Lively added.
According to Lively, teaching their daughters this lesson requires making them see their mother working. The actress revealed that she often takes her children from Reynolds to work.
“I take them everywhere. It’s very inappropriate, but I’m very lucky to have a job that allows me to do that,” the actress jokingly continued.
I mean, it’s great that they’re not hiding under my skirt right now.
Lively’s comments came after Reynolds previously revealed that the couple prioritized a work-life balance by working in turns. The Deadpool star had this to say on AOL Build in May 2018:
For me it’s all about prioritizing. We’re lucky enough to avoid saying, ‘Okay, Blake, you’re going to shoot a movie in Thailand while I shoot this movie in Vancouver’, and that’s an extreme luxury. We’re doing some sort of swap.
However, Reynolds recently announced that he plans to take a hiatus from acting to spend more time with his family.
“I’m just trying to create a little more space for my family and some time I can spend with them. You know, you really can’t get that time back,” Reynolds jokingly added to The Hollywood Reporter.
For me it’s really about spending quality time with my kids before they turn into teenagers who hate me.
Lively and Reynolds started dating after meeting on the set of Green Lantern in 2010 before getting married in 2012.
