Curiosity's new Mars photo shows a mysterious light

NASA’s Curiosity vehicle on Mars caught a mysterious “glow” on the Red Planet. The black and white photo taken by the vehicle featured desert landscape with high rocky hills in the background. Above a large rock formation in the images, a thin long stain was visible.

NASA had previously described similar anomalies in the photos taken by the vehicle. However, the photograph taken on June 16 was interpreted by some as proof of extraterrestrial beings.

On the other hand, the glare in the image is more likely to be caused by some kind of lens flare or the sun’s rays reflected on the rocks.

The Curiosity spacecraft landing on Mars in 2012 has 17 cameras. The car has been on the surface of the planet for 7 years, and has taken a large number of photographs, but has collected large amounts of data. Some of the photos he took showed abnormal lights like this.

There are two cameras called av navcams ğinde which serve as a kind of eye on the mast. With a 45-degree viewing angle, these cameras shoot in three-dimensional black and white. This gives researchers detailed views of the planet’s terrain.

The image of the glow in question was taken through the navcam on the right. Unfortunately, the left camera did not look in the same direction at that time.

The appearance and disappearance of unidentified white light seems to have been quite rapid. This is because there is no glare in the shots taken by the cameras just before and after the photograph.

A similar light caught on the vehicle’s cameras led to controversy in 2014, and many people argued that it belonged to aliens. However, Justin Maki, the leader of the team who designed the vehicle’s cameras, quickly denied these theories.

Maki said the following:

Thousands of images from Curiosity show bright spots almost every week. The most likely explanation is that it is caused by the reflections of cosmic rays or sunlight on the surface.
