Producers NICHOLAS BARTON and SUZANNE MACKIE are respectively Chief Executive and Director of Development of Harbour Pictures, the company created in 1999 as the film production arm of ABTV Ltd, an independent television production company co-founded by Barton that has produced dramas and documentaries for over fifteen years, including “Moving Story” for ITV, written by Jack Rosenthal, a Film on Four “Bye Bye Baby”, also written by Jack Rosenthal, “The Wimbledon Poisoner” for BBC TV starring Robert Lindsay and Alison Steadman, written by Nigel Williams, “Boswell and Johnson”, starring Robbie Coltrane for BBC, “Seven Wonders of the World”, a major documentary series for Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel.
In the Spring of 2001, with both Calendar Girls and Kinky Boots in development, Harbour negotiated a first look deal with Buena Vista International for the development and production of additional feature films for BVI. Harbour Pictures currently has three other films in development for Buena Vista, as well as films for the UK Film Council and Film Four. Harbour Pictures is one of only 8 other film production companies in the UK which have first look deals with US studios.
Calendar Girls, produced by Suzanne Mackie and Nick Barton, starring Dame Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, was released worldwide in 2003/2004 and became the 7th highest grossing British film ever in the UK, with over £20 million at the UK box office, and world box office of approximately $100 million.
