Jason Tobin
Real Name: Jason Tobin
Born: Hong Kong
Profession: Actor
Jason Tobin reteams with director Justin Lin on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. They previously worked together on the critically acclaimed drama, Better Luck Tomorrow, which premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival garnering a Grand Jury Prize nomination.
Tobin most recently appeared in Chromophobia, which starred Penelope Cruz and Ralph Fiennes and premiered at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. His other motion picture credits include The Hot Chick, Golden Dreams, The Party Crashers, Yellow and Beverly Hills Ninja among others. Tobin will next start in the BBC television drama Patrick's Planet.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, he began his acting career with a small role on the WB sitcom The Wayans Brothers and has since gone on to appear on the television shows Nash Bridges, The King of Queens, The Huntress and The Division.
But, he is most excited to work in independent films such as Yellow and now Better Luck Tomorrow where he gets the opportunity to experiment, stretch and immerse himself in roles that are rarely open to actors of his mixed ethnicity.
This young British actor was educated in his home town of Hong Kong, the UK, the Philippines and the US. Jason took his first drama class at a private boarding school in rural England at the age of nine.
However, shyness kept him out of school drama productions and it wasn't until the age of 18 while living in Asia, and ready to return to the UK to study law at university, that he verbalized his dream to become an actor.
Jason believes that his mixed parentage (British and Chinese) and having lived and studied in such culturally diverse places as Hong Kong, England, the Philippines and the US, has given him a unique perspective to his acting.
How did he get over his fear of performing? "I didn't." he says.
Tobin currently resides in London and Hong Kong.
