Eva Mendes is On Fire in Ghost RiderEva Mendes talks about working with Nicolas Cage, Comic-Con, and producing the film Live!
Eva Mendes is without a doubt one of the best looking actresses working today. However, she is a lot more than a very pretty face and in movies like Training Day and Out of Time she's shown that. In her newest film, Ghost Rider, she takes the typical role of "the chick" in a superhero movie and infuses it with a 21st Century style all her own.
In order to save his dying father, young stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) sells his soul to Mephistopheles and sadly parts from the pure-hearted Roxanne Simpson (Eva Mendes), the love of his life. Years later, Johnny's path crosses again with Roxanne, now a gogetting reporter, and also with Mephistopheles, who offers to release Johnny's soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery Ghost Rider, a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice. Mephistopheles charges Johnny with defeating the despicable Blackheart, Mephistopheles' nemesis and son, who plans to displace his father and create a new hell even more terrible than the old one. Ghost Rider give Eva Mendes nightmaresEva Mendez endured countless sleepless nights while making new comic book movie Ghost Rider, because the creepy film kept giving her nightmares.
The actress became so tired she called in a doctor to help her make it through the night. She says, "I was having nightmares at the end of this. I was in bad shape. I was immersed in this role."
"We were shooting nights, which is the entire night - until six in the morning when the sun comes up. I was in a bad space and it got a little creepy for me and I was having these awful nightmares. I remember seeing a doctor who told me I was freaking myself out." Ghost Rider Exclusive
Eva Mendes shares her Ghost Rider secretSmokin’ actress admits she finds ‘Ghost Rider’ really, really hot!
Eva Mendes is more accustomed to being the hottest person in the room.
Lately, she’s had to take a backseat to the flaming skull of Nicolas Cage, who plays Ghost Rider in the February film focused on the Marvel character. Wizard caught up with Mendes for a full interview about “Ghost Rider” and here’s what she had to say:
“I play a reporter, Roxanne Simpson, and Roxanne is Ghost Rider’s long lost love,” explained Mendes. “In the movie, it’s great because there’s this sad scene where we’re both young and we’re supposed to run away together. I’m waiting for him in the rain and I see his bike coming, but he makes that decision because he sold his soul to the devil. So it’s this heartbreaking scene and then you catch up with us 10 years later and it’s really romantic and sweet. It has kind of a “Beauty and the Beast” aspect to it.”
But the real star of “Ghost Rider” is Cage and his flaming skull and motorcycle, a fact Mendes is well aware of.
“That skull is hot!” laughed Mendes. “I definitely have superhero envy. I wanted my head to be on fire, I wanted to do all the fun stuff. But Nic got to do all the fun stuff. They wouldn’t let me ride on the motorcycle for insurance reasons. Just in case something silly would have happened it wasn’t allowed, but…darn. No fun. I did get thrown in a harness 100 yards and that was a lot of fun. When the devil comes after us I get thrown 100 feet and I kept messing up so I could just do it over and over again. It was like a ride.”
