Winners of the 79th Golden Globe Awards

West Side Story (2021)
West Side Story by Steven Spielberg

The winners of the Golden Globe Awards, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), have been announced. These awards are given every year for the best in the world of television and cinema.

The HFPA has been the target of criticism since last year for its non-black membership policy. Although the Union took a series of reform steps, the American NBC channel, the broadcaster of the ceremony, announced that it would not broadcast the Golden Globes this year due to the discussions.

Described as the most prestigious awards after the Oscars, the Golden Globes were announced this year in the shadow of these discussions, without any TV broadcasts and a red carpet ceremony attended by celebrities.

NBC officials previously stated that the HFPA’s steps will take time and work, and said, “We feel strongly that HFPA needs time to get this right.”

The Power of the Dog, West Side Story and Succession productions stood out this year with the awards they received. Michaela Jae Rodriguez won the “Best Actress” award for her performance in Pose, and became the first transgender actress to win a Golden Globe.
