Fifty Shades Darker: No longer alone in their own little world

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

Taglines: Slip into something a shade darker.

The imperfect fairy tale, which we met in the movie Fifty Shades of Gray (2015) adapted from the novel of the same name by E. L. James, continues with a softer turn to our lives, this time by looking at vanilla tones. The film, which ended with the separation between the leading roles in 2015 and left our hearts broken, enables us to get the illusion that everything can be normalized with the promise of a romantic relationship with an irregular, unpunished and unavoidable “vanilla” flavor as a result of the new rules of the new bargaining on the path of reconciliation. However, the normal understanding of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Gray (Jamie Dornan) and ours, as always, is unfortunately somewhat different this time.

The Fifty Shades of Darkness, adapted by Niall Leonard, directed by James Foley, reminds us that we do not take into account the superficiality on the way to our dreams embellished with flawless fairy tales. It takes our faith in the perfect fairy tale once again by showing that it can be darker and heavier than the sense. This time, the film aims to break the taboos in our heads regarding the ideal relationship model in vanilla style, and it cannot prevent us from finding ourselves as we cool down from the story at some point due to the heavy psychological problems between the characters.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

The film, which has gained a great place for the first time in our lives with the Twilight series, and based on the idea that a perfect fairy tale does not exist, contrary to what we have believed until today, brought the secret side of our gray horse prince as a shock factor in 2015, bringing us closer with this idea. Considering that we have already met the biggest surprise of the story and the biggest problem of the tale, and even we have some experience, we believe that the Fifty Shades of Darkness are unlikely to surprise us and the relationship between Christian Gray and Anastasia Steele will not be any more flawed.

However, the film makes us realize that we need to think once again by increasing the weight on the controlling sadistic / egoistic attitudes of the handsome but problematic Christian, who has an important job, even though we do not know anything about what is rich and not really seeing while working. While doing these, he also focuses on the silly, helpless and admiring aspects of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), which makes the relationship between them even more distorted.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

Because, in addition to being a couple with strange sex habits, we are now a younger audience of Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik instead of Beyoncé’s smoky and sexy voice of a woman who lacks confidence and a madman, a woman who sees the woman she loves as an object. It has a complex and even more problematic relationship, which is described in company with its appealing combination.

In addition to the car key and computer, which we are accustomed to from the Fifty Shades of Gray, this is also the arrival of a pink-colored mobile phone, and Christian Gray’s Anastasia and her own the obsession with owning everything somehow once again, and this time it appears more strongly. It is not surprising that the purpose of the box office success is shown in the film, where almost all the technological devices belong to the same brand and the logo of the brand eliminates the possibility of not being noticed.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

In other words, young, handsome billionaire Christian Gray must have everything and everyone who touches him, who is close to him or even talks with him, in the relationship with Anastasia Steele. When Christian Anastasia chooses her clothes and after another Pretty Woman (1990) moment, the fine line between ownership and ownership disappears slowly. From time to time, we find ourselves questioning what remains in their relationship when Ana and Christian’s red pain chamber is removed.

So without a strange sex rituals between the lead roles in a romantic genre movie, we cannot be fully sure whether it can survive with soft vanilla-style sex, although the movie has determined it as a task to convince us that the link between Ana and Christian is strong. In addition, watching the characters act as if they have taken lessons from what has happened before, actually watching them do not take any lessons makes us feel like we are stuck in a vicious circle as a spectator.

The fact that Anastasia Steele symbolically took control of the boat for a few minutes, took control, took off her gray dress and wore the red dress, the fact that she is no longer obedient, and some of the attitudes of our heroine that we have come across. The fact that Anastasia, whom we witnessed throughout the film, is different from others thanks to her struggle against obedience and features such as her determination and solid personality encourages our thoughts in this direction.

However, our dreams sprouting from small crumbs gradually break down with small events during the film. Especially when we witness the relationship between ex-obedient Leila Williams (Bella Heathcote), who is one of the sources of danger, and Christian, we never have the opportunity to forget that she will never be as strong and independent as our male hero, and we are accustomed to think that these transitions consist of illusions.

The fact that our characters are no longer alone in their own little world, in the red pain room, is the possibility of danger that serves the purpose of increasing excitement. Throughout the film, mother, Grace Trevelyan-Gray (Marcia Gay Harden), and Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson, in the archetypal archetype) are all threatened by all women who are connected to our male hero Christian Gray (Jamie Dornan). Once again, it shows that the film preferred to stay away from the thoughts that emerged within the scope of feminism.

The harmony between the Fifty Shades of Gray and the director Sam Taylor-Johnson, the first film of the series, and the harmony between the Fifty Shades of Darkness and James Foley duo takes the film higher. On the other hand, Niall Leonard’s efforts to add something to this story, which is not very successful in their own way with their dialogues, which can be described as being drier than the one told in the previous film based on physical shooting. In addition to all this, the bond that Dakota Johnson has established with the character continues to increase and underlines his successful acting once again.

The film, which has managed to maintain its compatibility with the book, has managed to maintain its speed for 118 minutes, even though it did not scare us enough with the events it included as a shock hazard. As a result, it can be said that the Fifty Shades of Darkness movie is a Twilight movie for adults because of the sexuality it contains, which is adorned with the idea that it is inevitable for two parties to harm each other if they love each other, it will be very popular and will surely make money.

Despite the fact that other popular films such as Lego Batman Movie (2017), John Wick 2 (2017) will also be released in the same week, the movie will achieve its targeted box office success. The third film of the series shot at the same time, the target audience who came to watch with the second film, which will be released in 2018, has been caught together, despite the fact that the second film has just been released, and its tight fans are given a dose of the film’s magic. Thus, at the end of the second movie, the box office success of the third movie begins to be calculated.
