Electric cars will make artifical motor engine sound

As of July 1, in the European Union countries, it has become compulsory to use a device that makes artificial motor sound in electric cars.

With the new decision of the European Union (EU), the use of ‘Acoustic Vehicle Warning System AV (AVAS), which will produce artificial engine sound in silent electric cars, became mandatory. The decision is aimed at providing road safety for visually impaired, partial vision loss, elderly and children.

The biggest reason behind the decision is that it’s hard to notice without seeing electric cars that run almost silently in traffic. AVAS is mounted at a speed of 19 km / h when the car, the sound will be activated automatically said. Although most non-governmental organizations for the visually impaired welcome the decision, it is also stated that the sound tone should be changed for every speed level that electric cars reach.

In the UK, the warning system is expected to be used in all electric cars starting from 2021, not only in new model cars. In the United States, as of September 2020 will be mandatory to use artificial engine sound in hybrid and electric cars.
