David Seville and chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore, return in the sequel to lay waste to Seville’s surroundings and sing in three-part harmony. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, the new movie will introduce the Chipmunks’ female counterparts, the Chipettes.
Thanks to Alvin’s on-stage shenanigans, Dave is laid-up in a Paris hospital. While he’s recuperating, his cousin Toby is entrusted with The Chipmunks’ care. Toby, is best known for starring as the titular hero – a nerdy electronics store employee who unexpectedly becomes a spy — in the NBC comedy-adventure series “Chuck.” Toby out-geeks even super-nerd Chuck; Toby is an obsessive videogame player who is totally out to sea when it comes to “parenting” — and trouble-prone Alvin, Simon and Theodore don’t make things any easier for him!
About the Story
During a benefit concert in Paris, France, David Seville (Jason Lee) is injured, leaving him recuperated there and asks his aunt (Jackie Seville) to look after the Chipmunks, Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney). Arrangements are also made for them to go to school at West Eastman High School. After another accident, the Chipmunks are left in the care of Toby (Zachary Levi), Dave’s first cousin once removed (Dave’s Aunt Jackie is Toby’s grandmother). Meanwhile, Ian Hawke (David Cross) lives in the basement of JETT Records. Three singing female chipmunks, Brittany (Christina Applegate), Jeanette (Anna Faris) and Eleanor (Amy Poehler), also known as The Chipettes, emerge and Ian hires them as plot to get back at the Chipmunks and revive his career.
While at school, Simon is bullied by jocks, who Alvin makes friends with and visit the principal’s office, only to discover that the principal (Wendie Malick) is a huge fan and wants them to help raise money for a music program by participating in a contest. Meanwhile, Ian is shocked to find the Chipmunks on the front page of his newspaper. After he reads a story about them, he quickly sends the Chipettes to school.
When the Chipmunks meet the Chipettes, a rivalry forms after the former group learns that the latter group are with Ian. Meanwhile, Alvin becomes popular with the jocks and joins the football team, not realizing that the next game is during the concert. At the concert, Theodore and Simon tell the fans that Alvin didn’t show up and that they can’t perform, leading to a victory for the Chipettes. When Alvin finally shows up after the concert is over, he finds the auditorium empty and is ignored by his brothers at home.
