DINO De LAURENTIIS (Producer) has amassed more than 60 years in the film industry. The legendary producer from Naples has been involved in producing such diverse movies as Bitter Rice, La Strada, War and Peace, Nights of Cabiria, Diabolique, Barbarella, Flash Gordon, Barrabas, Death Wish, The Bible, Waterloo, Serpico, Three Days of the Condor, King Kong, Ragtime, The Bounty, Tai-Pan, Dune, Anzio and Conan the Barbarian. He received Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for both La Strada (1954) and Nights of Cabiria (1957), both directed by Fellini. Collectively his films have received 30 Oscar® nominations and 59 foreign awards, most notably three Golden Lions, a Palme d'Or, three Golden Globes, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
De Laurentiis played a major role as a producer in post-war Italian films by such directors as Fellini, Rossellini, Visconti, De Sica and Antonioni. Their bodies of work were the backbone of the movement known as “neorealism.”
In 1990, De Laurentiis married Martha Schumacher, and together they have produced Firestarter, Cat's Eye, Raw Deal, Bedroom Window, the Oscar®-nominated Crimes of the Heart, Michael Cimino's Desperate Hours, the critically acclaimed Bound, starring Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon, Breakdown, starring Kurt Russell, U-571 starring Matthew McConaughey and Jon Bon Jovi, and most recently Hannibal, the blockbuster screen version of the Thomas Harris novel, directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by David Mamet and Steven Zaillian and starring Anthony Hopkins and Julianne Moore.
Upcoming projects for the Dino De Laurentiis Company include Alexander the Great, based on the Valerio Manfredi series of books in a screenplay by Ted Tally, Jackdaws based on the Ken Follett book in a screenplay by Jeannine Dominy, and Last Legion directed by Carlo Carlei from a book by Valerio Manfredi.
