Is the prediction of Hawking correct? How humanity will come to an end, how the apocalypse will break is two of the questions that most engage the human mind. In addition to the views of the scientist Stephen Hawkings, who died in the past years, there are apocalyptic warnings about our world. He will never be forgotten with his work on these issues.
“The probability of a catastrophe occurring in a year is very low in the world,” Hawking told the BBC in 2016. But this possibility increases over a wide period of time and becomes almost certain in time periods of one thousand, 10 thousand years. Confident that humanity could spread to the universe at that time, Hawking nevertheless warned people for the next 100 years:
“Over the next century, we won’t be able to access the technology to set up enough colonies in space, so we have to be very careful in this process.”
Although Stephen Hawking was aware of the opportunities created by artificial intelligence, she also warned against its threats. When Hawking spoke to the BBC in 2014, “the full development of artificial intelligence can bring an end to humanity.”
According to Hawking, simple artificial intelligence developed to date was very useful. It was an application of artificial intelligence that allowed him to talk to people. But Hawking thinks that the advanced forms of clever robots can outperform humans.
Stephen Hawking thought that one of the biggest threats to life in the world would come from climate change. That is why Hawking also explained her concerns about the USA’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.
“We are very close to the irreversible point. Trump’s action can open the way for the Earth to resemble Venus, at 250 degrees Celsius, with acid rains.”
Although structures such as SETI are available that scan the signals of intelligent beings from all over the Universe, Hawking warned against addressing other intelligent civilizations in the universe.
Speaking to the Discovery Channel in 2010, Hawking said she was concerned about the possibility that aliens would plunder the Earth for their resources and continue on their way: “If aliens visit us, it will be like Christopher Columbus stepping in America. This has never been good for Native Americans. Just look at ourselves to see how smart beings can turn into things we wouldn’t want to meet.”
