Some people think that he is very handsome and sexy, and others think that he is so sincere and sensitive. All in all, everyone has a good word for him. For me, who got to know him from the interviews, he is not capricious and he is really nice. He has a strange charm which attracts everybody to himself. Cheerful and lovely…
But those are the things which we see on his face. However, behind his face, there are resentment and anger,and even sometimes inner conflicts. He is like an iceberg and in this interview we try to learn the hidden side of The Witch with Green Eyes- as I call him like this.
Finally, your English album, which you have been dreaming for ten years, will be released. How do you feel now?
I'm totally a different person. When I wake up in the morning, I ask myself “Is it the day?”.I feel so relaxed. Till the last night (3/22) we had been working on the album cover. And there were also thank-you notes. Going through ten years and trying not to forget anyone…And after all these things had finished, I really felt relaxed.
Every one said that it was a lie, I mean your English album. They thought it could never be released.
Yes, they were right. If I were them, I would say the same things.
Why did it last 10 years and will your second English album be released after another 10 years?
Actually, it is not fair to say 10 years. Because I didn't know English and I couldn't believe in this dream would be true. I went to language courses while I was in America. So, I can say that this album has been shaped in the last 3 years. But of course, a lot of things happened in 10 years…And a lot of people had come and gone…One day, they will tell it to their grandchildren, “ Do you know that it lasted 10 years?”
Weren't you ever fed up with all this chaos, didn't you want to say “ Damn it” and leave it?
Of course,there were times I was fed up with them. I packed my suitcase and came to Turkey. And this happened more than once, really…But, one of my side told me that if I hadn't done this, I would be regretful till the end of my life.
You really made us surprised with “Bounce.” Music critics and even me ,who is not a critic, didn't like Bounce very much. But after listening to this new album, I felt that we were cheated.
Why did I want to cheat you?
Because, this songs are really wonderful…
I still defend my feelings and intuition. But, if you remember, those times Bounce and Shhh were found from the internet and downloaded. Actually, we released the single 4 months earlier because of this event. It has just released in Europe. Yes, this is not right as strategically but we tried to prevent from piracy. I'm not making an excuse and apart from everything, I still believe in my feelings. And I believe in Bounce. Cause in Europe, people really are interested in baglama. (an instrument with three double strings). They ask “ What is it?”. I think Bounce has a different side with its rhythm and fire.
