Nicole's island haven: Bora Bora
The wedding of the year is done and dusted but the honeymoon in paradise has just begun.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban yesterday landed in Tahiti to start their new life together surrounded by a tranquil lagoon edged with powder-white sand in the middle of the South Pacific.
The couple arrived about 2.30am Sydney time yesterday on their rented private Gulfstream jet and were quickly whisked off in a chartered plane for a 45-minute journey to nearby Bora Bora.
They are staying at the St Regis resort, 260km from the Tahitian capital Papeete. It is believed their accommodation is the luxury destination's new 4500sqm, $US15,000 a night Royal Estate.
The couple is expected to spend a week at the French Polynesian getaway touted as "the most beautiful island in the world".
Country music superstar Urban, 38, helped his tired-looking bride Kidman, 39, down the steps of the jet in Papeete while local customs officials picked up and then redelivered their passports from the international terminal.
To evade local press at the tiny Bora Bora airstrip, they were met by a crew of staff from the resort who escorted them on a short shuttle boat ride to St Regis.
"The resort staff were all around them when they came through here," an airport official at Bora Bora airport told Confidential.
Having spent their wedding night at the Park Hyatt hotel on Sunday, it was widely tipped Kidman and Urban were bound for Fiji's Wakaya resort.
But the loved-up pair pulled a surprise by choosing Bora Bora over Fiji - not surprising, considering Fiji was the destination for Kidman's honeymoon with Tom Cruise.
It had also been suggested the couple was headed for the private resort on the Tahitian island of Tahaa where Cruise and fiancee Katie Holmes stayed for a week after attending Kerry Packer's funeral in February.
But in steering clear of Cruise's path, the newlyweds are hardly roughing it - they are among the first guests at the Royal Estate overwater bungalow in the resort which opened just weeks ago.
The villa boasts a 24-hour butler service, an in-room jacuzzi and a room with a private swimming pool.
Even on their no-expense spared honeymoon, Kidman and Urban were not completely alone. The Oscar winner's personal security guard Sonja Zollman also made the trip to Tahiti and will rejoin the couple when they return to their home in Nashville.
