One of France's more prominent and prolific actors, Vincent Cassel came to international attention in the hard-hitting film La Haine (Hate). Since then he has continued to star in both French and international films, including the award-winning L'Appartement, Birthday Girl, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Read My Lips, Irreversible and, mort recently, Stephen Soderbergh's Ocean's Twelve, the sequel to comedy caper remake Ocean's Eleven.
For his role in La Haine in 1996, he was nominated for two Cesar Awards-as Best Actor and Most Promising Newcomer, and was again nominated as best actor for his performance in Sur Mes Levres in 2001, which also resulted in a nomination as Best Actor at the European Film Awards.
