Cameron Diaz Bad Teacher Interview

Cameron Diaz Bad Teacher Interview

Cameron Diaz earned the 2011 CinemaCon Female Star of the Year Award and before accepting her award, she spoke about her upcoming comedy ‘Bad Teacher’ in which she plays a foul-mouthed teacher opposite Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel.

You keep saying how much fun it still is to act? Is it really that much fun?

Cameron Diaz: “It really is. I mean, come on, I get to make movies for a living. I don’t know, it’s a lot of work. I think people probably look at movies and think, ‘Oh, it’s so easy to do.’ I mean, we work hard to make films and it’s a team effort. I love the process of making movies. It’s something that I love to work hard, and I love to go out and sort of get in there with everybody every day.

That’s just something that I really, really enjoy, to get to do it and to do it with the end product being something that people enjoy. You get to give that to the world and make people happy and make them laugh, or make them consider something they didn’t before or feel an emotion that maybe has been underlying in their life that is revealed to them. I love telling stories and I love acting.”

Cameron Diaz Bad Teacher Interview

We see a lot of R-rated comedies with the guys getting to cuss and everything. This is a woman that finally gets to do that. How refreshing is that?

Cameron Diaz: “It’s great. I mean, it’s nice because usually, like I said, I’m always ruining takes because somehow it slips out. It does, you know, when you’re in the moment. And to be able to do a film where they’re like, ‘Could you do that a little bit more?’ I’m like, ‘Really? All right.’ So, it’s a lot of fun.”

Did that carry off the set?

Cameron Diaz: “Of course, of course. You know, it’s really fun because usually when I worked with kids in the past they’ve said to me, ‘Don’t…’ Shit, what was I going to say? Abigail. See, I’m sorry! When I worked with Abigail [Breslin] on My Sister’s Keeper, she would say, ‘You owe me $10 every time you cuss.’ And I was like, ‘You owe me $10 every time you don’t.’ You know what I mean? ‘If you don’t swear every 10 words, I want some money from you.’ And it was a joke of course, but it’s just one of those things where it’s life and you’re living it. So of course it all bleeds over.”

You were saying people bust you up and you ruin tapes. Who on this movie did that the most?

Cameron Diaz: “Oh, Phyllis [Smith] is a genius. I mean, she’s a genius. You look at genius, comedienne, and there is Phyllis Smith. She’s brilliant, and Jason [Segel] and Justin [Timberlake] and everybody else, all the teachers that were there. They have these bright moments where they just kind of like take over. And it’s just a really wonderful group of comedians that are on this film.”

Are we going to see a ton of outtakes on the DVD for this film of you cracking up?

Cameron Diaz: “If they do it, there will be. Yes.”

And congratulations on the Female Star of the Year Award. What does it mean to you?

Cameron Diaz: “You know, again, it’s really just to be able to be doing what I love for so long and make a living out of it, and work with all the talented people that I’ve been able to work with and tell the stories that I have. I just feel really grateful and really honored to be able to do it. It’s really, honestly, a true honor to be able to make films. It’s something I never take for granted. It’s a gift.”
