Welcome to a life without Social Media

What would life be like without Social Media?

Social media. Media is now among the indispensable parts of life. Phones and tablets are in people’s hands, but this platform, which has become addictive, also has negative effects on socialization. Unfortunately, while socializing is desired, sometimes one can stay away from socializing.

By spending too much time on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, we actually fall behind from daily life. Because of this platform, responsibilities can be forgotten and daily functionality may decrease. It no longer matters how long you spend on social media a day, social media is used almost all the time you are awake.

In this week’s article, I want to talk about what life would be like without social media. I can almost hear you say that if social media didn’t exist, its place would definitely be filled with other things, but think about how life would be more livable if this platform didn’t exist.

Welcome to a life without Social Media

We would eat the meal ourselves first

Some users, especially on Instagram, have made it a habit to share their pictures before eating. Sharing the picture first and reading the comments received online at any time, when you can enjoy the meal in front of you as soon as possible, means not only wasting time reading the comments, but also disrespecting the other people at the dinner table, if eating with friends. Unless the other people at the dinner table are in their own world with their mobile phones these days. If it wasn’t for the habit of sharing food pictures on social media; The meal would be thoroughly enjoyed, and more communication and sharing would be possible with friends.

Tweeting Instead of Swimming in the Pool

It’s a hot summer day, you’re at the seaside or by the pool and browsing social media. You are already overwhelmed with classes and studying all year long. You spend time on social media when you could rest and relax a bit and enjoy the beauty of the environment. Here is another negative example of how social media distracts you from life.

Meet Your Family and Community

I have to say that during the evening hours when family members are together, especially young people retreat to their own rooms and focus on their computers or mobile phones, which can prevent the development of family ties. Having a mobile phone in hand during dinner and the desire to finish the meal as soon as possible and return to one’s own environment also restricts family togetherness. Although I would like to say that it is wrong to attribute the sole reason for communication problems between family members to social media, I must also state that its share is quite high.

Family elders, who used to have problems bringing children home from playing outside the house, may now have problems taking them out of the house. Children who are constantly in contact with digital environments may remain more passive and reluctant towards their families and the outside world. Although restricting the internet within the family seems like a solution to avoid such situations, I think it would be beneficial to meet with an expert for a solution. It is very important for young family members to get information from experts about internet awareness, social media concepts, their good and bad aspects, and to act consciously.

Why Do We Like, Comment and Share?

According to the research conducted by scientists regarding the issue of constantly taking and sharing photos on social sharing platforms such as Facebook or Instagram and getting into a different mood than the current one while sharing, it has been found that there is a strong connection between Facebook and the reward center of the brain (nucleus accumbens). When a positive emotion is received through Facebook, this part of the brain begins to activate. As the intensity of the positive emotions received increases, the activity in the reward center of the brain increases at the same rate.
