Netflix has revealed the first images and release date of the new animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. The series, in which Marvel actress Hayley Atwell lends her voice to iconic adventurer Lara Croft, will air from October 10, 2024.
Based on the popular Tomb Raider video games developed by Crystal Dynamics, the series takes place in the continuity of the reboot trilogy that began in 2013 and ended with Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018. This builds the story on the events of these games and builds a bridge to the original game series.
Hayley Atwell, known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays the role of Lara Croft. She is joined by Allen Maldonado as the tech expert Zip and Earl Baylon, who reprises the role of Jonah Maiava, a character from recent video games.
The story of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft begins after the events of the Survivor trilogy, consisting of Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Lara has left her friends behind and embarked on more dangerous solo adventures. When a powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor, she is forced to return home.
This sets her on a worldwide search for the thief, who turns out to have an unexpected personal bond with her. Throughout her journey, Lara will descend deep into forgotten tombs and be confronted with her true self as she tries to determine what kind of hero she wants to be.
With Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, Netflix continues its tradition of bringing beloved video game series to the screen, following previous successes such as The Witcher and Castlevania. Expectations are high. The series can be seen on Netflix from October 10. Watch the first trailer below.
