Filmmaker Todd Phillips released two new stills from the highly anticipated movie “Joker: Folie a Deux” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. In the first photo, Phoenix’s Joker is seen in his cell at Arkham Asylum. In the second photo, Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn looks at the Joker with make-up on.
Phillips said in his post on his Instagram account, “I wish everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year.” The trailer of the movie has not been released yet and it is expected to be released in the spring at the earliest.
In 2019, the first movie, “Joker”, grossed $1 billion and earned Joaquin Phoenix the Oscar for best actor. Phoenix returns as Arthur Fleck in the sequel, which is said to take place almost entirely in Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum and feature musical elements.
Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Jacob Lofland star in the film, directed by Phillips from a script he wrote together with Scott Silver. The film is considered a DC Elseworlds project, so it is not part of Peter Safran and James Gunn’s DC Universe. “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be released on October 4, 2024.
