Tel Aviv: The most expensive city in the world

While the World Cost of Living Index for 2021 has been announced, the most expensive city in the world has been Tel Aviv from Israel for the first time. It was noted that the majority of the top 20 most expensive cities in the world were made up of European and Asian countries.

According to the information obtained by Agency Press from the data of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Tel Aviv, Israel, became the most expensive city in the world for the fit time. While European and Asian cities dominate the list, it was seen that 173 cities were taken as a base. Thus, it was observed that Paris (France) took the second place, Singapore took the third place, Zurich (Switzerland) took the fourth place and Hong Kong took the fifth place. Other cities in the top 10 were New York (USA), Geneva (Switzerland), Copenhagen (Denmark), Los Angeles (USA), Osaka (Japan) respectively.

Looking at the studies conducted by different research companies in previous years, it was observed that Switzerland was generally the most expensive. North American and Chinese cities remained relatively moderately priced, while the cheapest cities were recorded mostly as poor regions of the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The media monitoring agency Ajans Press examined the number of news items reflected in the media about the cost of living. According to the archive analysis carried out by Ajans Press in print media and web channels, it was determined that 29,448 news items were reported to the media under the heading of expensiveness this year. While transportation, automotive, rent, fuel, clothing, market and bread prices were the leading in terms of expensiveness in Turkey this year, 621,309 news were reflected in the media under these headings. The increases in the exchange rates constituted the number one agenda item of the media.
