The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced that the 65th Eurovision Song Contest has been canceled due to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19).
In a statement from the official website of the Geneva-based EBU, it was stated that all possibilities were reviewed to avoid the cancellation of the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands on May 16.
In the statement, however, it is highlighted that “we have to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.” expression was used.
It was noted that consultations with the City of Rotterdam and other relevant stakeholders will continue so that the competition can be held in 2021. Thus, the competition, which started in 1956, had to be canceled for the first time due to the Kovid-19 pandemic.
