Metaverse states in the future world. Some define the Metaverse concept as the “New Reality”. This concept, which belongs to the new world and the future, began to enter our lives very quickly. The Metaverse concept, which is also viewed as an indicator of cyber society, seems to affect the state structures of the future.
The change that states undergo in the process of historical development is seen as the evolutionary necessity for states, which are accepted as living systems, to change themselves. In this context, we are being drawn into the new world process with the concept of virtual state, where we encounter the concept of electronic state, digital state and “Metaverse”, which emerged after the concept of nation state.
Based on this, understanding the Metaverse environment that creates a fictional universe will be the first step in this article. Metaverse is considered as the virtual universe where all digital worlds come together. Metaverse, which will soon spread to every area from working life to private life, is on its way to creating a new world in all areas of life, including culture and art. Especially rapid developments in computer technologies have introduced the concept of “Metverse” into our lives.
The concept comes from the Greek “meta”, meaning “after or beyond”. Combining it with the English concept of “universe” gave the meaning of Metaverse. In this context, Metaverse is a computing universe in which we participate in all universes in three dimensions. Metaverse, which is considered a highly developed example of the Internet, allows us to do most of the things we do physically in real life in a virtual world.
Nation states that emerged as a result of the capitalist economic system after the Industrial Revolution have undergone evolutionary change with each technological change and have begun to shape themselves according to new production relations. In this context, the discovery of electricity revealed the production process using electricity. The invention of electronics created the infrastructure of computers. Then, with the internet and social media, we were faced with the concept of Metaverse today.
The purpose of this article is, if people can create their own virtual environments with Metaverse platforms, why can’t states create their own virtual ones? If the virtual world allows a person to create his own virtual twin, it can also provide it to states. States can take part in this virtual world as a political actor and produce information in the context of creating global public opinion. They can perform their services through their virtual twins.
