Lady Ice movie synopsis. Three million dollars worth of diamonds provide the focal point of this lively caper film. The jewels have been purloined and now an insurance investigator must bring them back. The search leads the investigator to Miami and then the Bahamas. Eventually, he meets the fence’s daughter and decides to be a jewel thief too.
Lady Ice is a 1973 crime film about an insurance investigator who becomes involved with a wealthy young woman he suspects of fencing stolen jewelry. The film was directed by Tom Gries, and stars Donald Sutherland, Jennifer O’Neill, and Robert Duvall.
Lady Ice comes off as a routine programmer, due for the most part to the listless performance of Donald Sutherland in the male lead. It is due to the superior work by Robert Duvall in a small role as a Dept of Justice officer and Jennifer O’Neill, as the gorgeous lady crook of the title, that the film comes off at all.
Shot on location for the most part, the handsomely-lensed actioner [from a story by Alan Trustman] pits jewel thieves against an insurance company private eye (Sutherland) in recovery of $3 million in ice from a Chicago holdup. O’Neill turns out to be the lady in charge of the caper. The rather thin plot is made up of numerous chases, a bit of violence and long, dull passages of Sutherland trying to make it with the lady criminal.
