The city of Pisa is usually visited with the idea of spending half a day of travelers to visit Florence to Pisa. The best transportation option to reach Pisa via Florence is the train. From Florence central train station Florence Campo di Marte stop, trains run to Pisa every 20 minutes. Tickets of € 8 are counted as round trip train tickets and the distance between Florence and Pisa takes 50 – 60 minutes.
Since the Campo di Marte stop is outside the city, you will first take the train to reach Campo di Marte from the Santa Maria Novella train station. Trains to Pisa leave from Campo di Marte stop. You can purchase all your transportation tickets online at the Trenitalia Website. It is good to add it as a note. You can reach Pisa in 80 minutes with the option of transportation by bus, which is a more reasonable option.
When we arrive in Pisa, we get off at Pisa Central Station. After getting off the train, we leave the train station. There is a billboard with a Pisa map in front of us, but a small map from the tourist information centers will allow us to travel more comfortably. Since the Information Centers are opened at 9, we try to understand the environment a little bit until then.
When we leave the Rhine station, we walk straight to a square with the Vittorio Emanuele II statue. Born in Turin, called Father of the Motherland, II. Vittorio became King of Italy from 1861 until his death year 1878. At the same time, the person who came to Rome and declared the city as the capital was II. Vittorio.
In this square in the Tourist Information Center. It will remain at 2 o’clock when you exhibit the same posture as the statue. We can continue on our way by getting the necessary information, brochures and maps.
There is an art you need to see on the side wall of the Catholic church named Sant’Antonia Abate on our left. There is a wall art drawn by Keith Haring, who makes wall paintings with his unique style and inspires big brands like Swatch, Absolut Vodka.
Domus Mazziniana, where journalist and politician Giuseppe Mazzini lived in the last years of his life, is another point to visit. Mazzini’s works and writings are on the lower floor of the house at Mazzini 71. On the top floor, you can see various antiquities and clothes belonging to Mazzini.
Let’s go forward and cross the bridges that cross the Arno River, which divides the city of Pisa into two. Arno River is the river that has filled the west of Florence with alluviums and made it a land piece together with Pisa and Nepoli. While crossing, don’t forget to take the reflections of the structures on the shore into the river. These structures offer great frames in the morning hours.
In the San Matteo National Museum, which is a small museum next to the Arno River, you can see the works of art of famous painters and sculptors of the Middle Ages, especially in the Tuscany region.
After leaving the national museum, the destination is Piazza del Duomo, which includes the Leaning Tower of Pisa. An ancient building draws our attention on our journey through Via Carte Fedeli. We learn from the boards on that this building, which is said to be the most important
The road going through Via Maffi will take you straight to Pisa Square. Increasing tradesmen mobility as you get closer to the square and the Tower of Pisa and baptistery that appear before you do not doubt that you are on the right track.
That square subject to postcards
As soon as we enter the field, we continue on the road on the right. We need to buy tickets before visiting the buildings. They offer combined ticket options when buying tickets. It will be more comfortable for you if you decide which ones to enter in advance. Options include Pisa Cathedral, Pisa Baptistery, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Campo Santo Memorial Tomb, Sinopie Museum, and the Opera House and Cathedral Museum.
If you want to go up to the tower, you need to revise € 18. We did not want to go up to the tower. We also bypassed the Opera House. We could not enter the Museo Dell’Opera Del Duomo, where the cathedral treasures and the sculptures of the famous sculptor Pisonu were located due to the restoration, but we would not prefer it if it was not in restoration. Because there are similar ones in San Matteo National Museum. As a result, we have 4 points to visit and it is 8 € per person. It was a very reasonable account. We can continue traveling.
Of course, you can travel in the order you want. Our choice is primarily the Camposanto Memorial Tomb. Camposanto, used as a tomb in its history, now functions as a museum with sculptures, sarcophagi and frescoes.
After leaving Camposanto, we enter the Pisa Baptistery, which comes to the fore with its circular form. This structure, which is quite imposing, impresses everyone with its biggest baptistery and acoustics in Italy.
We are in the main building of Pisa Cathedral, which is considered the heart of Piazza del Duomo and where every building around it is built accordingly. There is not much to spend time in, but if this happens, it would not be right to leave without entering Pisa Cathedral.
The next stop is the Sinopie Museum, a small part of which consists of frescoes. In this museum, you can benefit from the projection show about Piazza del Duomo, and have the opportunity to watch Camposanto in three dimensions. Do not expect much from here, it is a small museum, but we also visit here as it is included in the ticket.
This is the place to visit in and around the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It’s time to lie down on the grass and rest. Yacht, relax and enjoy great historical buildings. It is the most important thing to do at this moment to act according to the train’s return time. We leave the door in the middle of the city walls behind the baptistery and move towards Pisa San Rossore train station.
You may feel hungry especially at noon in Pisa. The nearby Subway sandwich shop where we sold quite tasteful dishes you know from Turkey sandwich accompanied by an appropriate Leaning Tower of Pisa. At the end of the trip, you can enjoy the Cavallini ice cream, which has an exquisite taste, that you will encounter while going to the train station.
