Are those here who can’t understand what’s going on in the Netflix drama The Witcher? What about those who could not watch and close the first three episodes? The reason I couldn’t understand is that The Witcher actually uses several time frames at the same time and gives no clue about it. In other words, those who skip the first three episodes may have to watch the series twice and regret it.
In fact, nothing the series gives the audience is empty. Only the confusion created by screenwriters prevails. In The Witcher, you can see the history of one character at the same time and what the other character is doing now. How will you distinguish all this? Let’s get those who watch the series once! Attention, lots of spoilers are available!
Geralt’s childhood
We cannot say that Geralt of Rivia looks very old. However, the scenes where Geralt was shown as a child go back 100 years. When we went to Geralt’s childhood, we met his mother Visenna and witnessed him leaving. Vesemir, another Witcher, left him to raise. According to Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the creator of the series, Geralt is now 100 years old.
Geralt’s main story
The start of Season 1 of The Witcher goes back 20 years before what happened at the end of the season. Geralt does not age, but we see that everyone around is aging from one scene to another. The monsters killed by Geralt in the first three chapters go back many years. In the first episodes, we saw that he killed Renfri and his men, and here he gets the nickname Butcher of Blaviken. However, it is never possible to determine exactly when they met Jaskier. If Jaskier appears to have attended the ball in Centri just before Ciri was born, their acquaintance seems to be over 15 years of comfort.
In this ball we learn the reason for the bond between Geralt and Ciri. Princess Pavetta falls in love with a cursed man, and Geralt provides the dissolution of the curse in a way, saving life. After that, Geralt, through his right to surprise, says that Geralt is the unborn baby when he says, “Give something that you do not know yet.” This time period also coincides with the period Yennefer was in Aedirn Palace.
Yennefer’s story
Yennefer and Geralt meet shortly after Geralt learns about the existence of Ciri. As Geralt saves Yennefer’s life from a skin, he connects himself and Yennefer’s fate. The young Yennefer, which we have seen since the first episodes, is Yennefer 70 years before the Aretuza School opposed Cahir and his men in the Battle of Centra. Yennefer, who we have met with Geralt, has been working in Aedirn Palace for 30 years and left.
When Yennefer stops working for Queen Kalis and Aedirn from Lyria (when Kalis is dead), another powerful and borderless witch begins to work for Fringilla, Nilfgaard, and Cahir. The story of Yennefer was finished in the first season by scouting to prevent the Nilfgaard army from coming to the castle where the witches were located. All witches and sorcerers were defeated one by one, and while some of them moved to the ranks of the enemy, Yennefer had revealed all the power inside. Of course, at that time, we do not know if Yennefer turned into ash or had to flee.
Ciri’s story
Only Ciri’s story proceeds in a smooth timeline. Ciri’s grandmother, who is already young, lives with the queen of Cintra, Calanthe. Geralt had accidentally used his right to surprise Ciri over many years ago, and then denied this right, causing a damnation over the kingdom. So we learned that Ciri’s parents lost their lives.
Our second encounter with Ciri occurred when the Nilfgaard Army attacked Cintra. Of course, after Calanthe died, Ciri hit the road with his elf friend who never existed in the books. Calanthe’s only wish was for Ciri to find Geralt. Geralt was the only one that Ciri could not find. When we say Brokilon Forests, Cahir, we have come to the end of the season.
