Jason Segel (Russell Gettis) landed his first major picture starring role as Peter in Universal Pictures’ Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which he also wrote. Released in 2008, produced by Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson, and directed by Nicholas Stoller, the film went to make over $100 million worldwide. With Segel’s writing skills now in demand by many studios, Segel was inspired to fulfill a personal idea and passion by pitching his concept for a Muppet movie. Segel and Stoller would co-write the screenplay for the upcoming film The Muppets, in which Segel also stars. The film will be released by Disney this Thanksgiving.

In June 2007, Segel was summoned by Apatow to share the great success of the comedy Knocked Up with stars Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. The film grossed over $140 million dollars domestically and won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Comedy.

In 2009, Segel rejoined Rudd in the Paramount film I Love You, Man. John Hamburg (Meet the Parents) worked as writer, director, and producer of the film.

Re-collaborating with Stoller in 2010, Segel wrote and co-produced the film Get Him to the Greek, in which Jonah Hill and Russell Brand reunited as co-stars in a spin-off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The film grossed $88.3 million worldwide and won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Comedy. Segel’s feature film credits also include Slackers, The New Jersey Turnpikes, S.L.C. Punk, Can’t Hardly Wait, and Dead Man on Campus.

On the television front, Segel stars as Marshall opposite Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, and Neil Patrick Harris in the CBS hit comedy series “How I Met Your Mother.” This series was touted by Time Magazine, hitting the list as one of the Ten Best Shows of 2005. However, it was his recurring role as Eric on the Apatow-produced show “Undeclared,” the FOX series about college freshmen, and named one of Time Magazine’s Ten Best Shows of 2001, that first put him in the minds and hearts of television viewers.

In 1999, Segel portrayed Nick Andopolis on “Freaks and Geeks,” Apatow’s Emmy® Award nominated television series for NBC. Segel played a lanky fun-loving-freak dreaming of stardom as a rock-and-roll drummer, like his idol, John Bonham, of Led Zeppelin. It was this role that won him over with Apatow.

In addition to the highly anticipated film, The Muppets, Segel will be starring in the upcoming comedic film Jeff Who Lives at Home, directed and written by Mark and Jay Duplass. Segel will be playing the title role as Jeff, opposite Ed Helms as a lazy, underachieving adult who still lives with his mother.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Segel continues to reside there.
