What Cerey Mulligan said at Comic Con
Carey Mulligan told the audience at Comic Con 2011 that his work was in the drive to fall in love with Ryan Gosling, who plays a stunt driver by day / night getaway driver in the drama of action. Gosling, apparently went all out for his role, the learning that has to deal with a car like a professional stunt driver, while Mulligan admits she wanted to get their hands on the action scenes of the film, but never had the chance. Mulligan plays next character is next to Gosling endangered by her ex-con husband (played by Oscar Isaac), with the intensification of Gosling to help save her.
What was the appeal of Drive?
“I have Wall Street and then everything happened with education took me until March, I did not work for that because he had things so much that I had not realize the need to go to both… many parts. It was a nightmare! I had to go to all these parties! Glamour! [Laughs] No. Then everything after that and I read things that were around just seemed a little too similar to stuff that I had done. There were a few adolescents who felt a bit like an education and similar roles in Never Let Me Go and many things I had done television before, so I did not find anything.”
“I saw Bronson when he got out because I like so much Tom Hardy and just thought it was the most incredible film. And then I looked Pusher trilogy, as it was Nicolas. And last summer, I looked and Valhalla Rising sent my agent and said, “I just want to work with someone like Winding Refn. I want to work with someone who makes films like he does. “And he sent me back and said,” Well, it’s a movie. ” But the character was originally written for a slightly older Latina woman, so my agent told me, ‘We’ll meet one and see what happens.”
“So I went to meet him at his house. We’d actually met before, in Melbourne, a couple of years when I was on the press tour for education. We had not really talked much But when I walked into his house – Nic is the most brutally honest person I have ever met in my life – and he was sitting on the couch and he turned and said, “Oh, Carey, you was much larger last time we met. ” So from there, I thought, ‘Right, well, it will not lie. He will always tell me if I’m being shit. “And then we just had the best weather. It was on my fantasy wish list of directors, so I was delighted to be just her.”
If you did not really like the character, would you have done the film is to work with him?
“I do not think I came in and played an early age of 16, I do not think I did something repetitive But other than that, I would have done almost anywhere How to be in his cinema. It was lucky that it was anything else for me, but I desperately wanted to work with him.”
What did he discuss with you your character? Is it more of a reactionary?
“There are all these stories of actors who worked on this film, he invites you around his house, you meet him and he had to ask you a series of questions and basically use it to make it that he thought the character was. So I went in and just said bullsh-t. I just wanted the job so badly that I started to say whatever came to mind. I started having all these ideas that make no sense. I tried to convince him to throw myself at the bottom, so I tried to do my size. But it has an 8 year old child in the film, so we got with the whole family together.”
“Oscar Isaacs, who plays my husband and I came up with our love story all together. There was a scene that was cut was when we met him and be a couple of years older than me and I was 17. We arrived with all our backstory. When it comes to film, as the relationship of my character character Ryan Gosling in the film is on this center of calm, surrounded by chaos Simply fill. It is this fairy tale, little surreal love story, a knight in shining armor and a girl trapped in a tower. It was really more than two lonely people struggling who have found a way to temporarily quiet, if the dialogue and backstory and all this stuff has been stripped away.”
So they do not say in the film. Will make it easier or harder for you as an actress?
“It is easier if you can not do with an American accent, I do not know it’s different, I play a character in Never Let Me Go where the script for my character was very sparse and I ‘ I liked …. With Never Let Me Go, I had a whole book written from the point of view of my character so I always knew where I was. But with Ryan [Gosling], it was just easy.
It is a brilliant actor and is well prepared. He did not warm to be in a scene. It is right in it. It draws you in some way. We’ve had scenes where we watched the each other without words for three minutes until it was weird, but somehow I feel like it’s working because the rest of the film has all the complex characters and witty, intelligent and terrifying. This is the part of the film where there is some hope. It’s pretty nice.”
Were you involved in the action at all?
“No. I was really annoyed, but I wanted to be in more stuff stunt was for a time, there is a scene where Ryan and someone pulled me covering, and I was so excited – and then he All has been cut. I never had anything involving a weapon before. So there is a part of the film where this love story with the stuff through action, a scene in an elevator, but other that, no, I don ‘t get to see things in action. I was on set a lot and producer Ryan notched Mini Cooper and did some stunt driving in a parking lot that has scared the SH- t out of me. It was just to scare me, pretty good.”
Would you like to do an action film where you are heroin butt-shots?
“Yeah I do not wear spandex, but I do not want to wear a costume lycra No, I love to love to do a Paul Greengrass film or something like that is an action movie centered on the characters. I want someone to make me go to the gym every day and all that. I do not know. Wherever the characters are good, I tend trying to get a job. It was nice because it was dipping my toe in the action genre. Maybe I could put my foot in next time.”
Were you a fan of such “criminals with a change of consciousness when they meet the right kind of girl before you Drive?
“The only film I watched it really helped me in terms of Irene, Alice was not here, I thought his relationship with his son in this film was so beautiful I was pretty nervous the idea of having an adult. kid up in the film, and his relationship with his son in this film was so beautiful and honest. You do not see much between me and Kaden [Leo], the boy who plays my child, but I took a little bit of that.”
